BETTY'S ROOM
She waited like the stillness in the winter, her heart a fragment on a colour
wheel
Surrounded by the many shaded reasons
It's not easy to be real, it's not easy to feel.
She makes a space to lay her brushes on, empties out a corner of her day
In cans of colours lines against the wall, in Betty's Room there is no gray
And she is ready, ready to paint the world, ready now, ready to paint the world.
She moves into a life she met in dreams, holds a pallet gently on her knees,
Knowing now truth is strange and simple, filling in the lines, loving all she
sees
And she is ready, ready to paint the world, ready now, ready to paint the world.
She's waited so long to find this place, and Betty stays now colouring the gray
And everything will be brighter, now her world makes sense,
She's holding all those colours in her arms, and the answer is so simple,
yes, yes, yes,
She's ready to paint the world.......
MANDOLIN
The moment I saw you I wasn't leaving.
I'd waited so long to find someone to believe in
I'd always trusted the moon, but she was setting way too soon
So I looked for a song to make the night begin again
Stood inside those juke box lights and turned away and in my head I heard you
say
'I like the mandolin'
Well I let myself do something I'd always wanted to
When I stepped out on the floor and danced alone for you
Your body moved so close I could feel you keeping time
To that song you hear inside your head you've let me listen to
Drawing lines too faint to see and smiling and I can hear you say again
I like the mandolin, I like the mandolin....
Hold out my heart, hold out my hands
Holding out everything I am to be holding only you again
And again
That moonlight shining on the ground made my boots look new
and leaning on my old green car you called reptilian blue
I was trying to recall that song when the juke box played again
and I wondered how I'd gotten through now that everything is changing and here
I am
I hear the mandolin, I hear the mandolin....
