LONDON FREE PRESS REVIEW

ÒBetween two worlds I goÓ sings Linda McLean. What worlds are those? Well, on her sophomore album No Language, the rootsy Toronto singer-songwriter lives in two distinct places. Most of the time she wraps herself in the warm throaty twang and strummy Americana of Kathleen Edwards. But every so often ø mostly on the ballads ø whe moves toward the soaring, birdlike croon and aching melancholy of Jann Arden. Either way, she surrounds herself with simple, elegant arrangements and melodies that mark her a supremely talented songsmith. No Language speaks volumes.
