Linda McLean

CD: Betty's Room

Heaven Magazine, Belgium

"NICE DEBUT" Singer-Songwriter (Indiepop) Betty's Room is the first album by Canadian Linda McLean. The eleven songs are hers and her partner Andy McLean. The duo has an excellent style of writing. The lyrics are mostly autobiographical and full of atmosphere. Above all the McLeans have written good melodies which keep hangin' inside your head. Andy plays all the guitar parts and shows to be a gifted guitarist. Linda has a very gentle (nice) voice and convinces in both the easy as in the more rocky songs. The album opens with the beautiful title-track with a truly magnificent refrain, a tribute to artist Betty Munsie who made the cover-design. The first five songs are up-tempo and strong, only in Who Will Say, a song in which especially the refrain is wonderfully laying on the chords, they take back power. All songs are musically and textual very convincing, they make tasteful music and the album is recorded very well. Within the eleven songs there are no misses and even the more highlights, like Betty's Room, Mandolin, Who will say, Monday Song en the beautiful closer Harmony Row.
